Ten-men Reds grabbed a minimum win.
Liverpool's third choice goalkeeper Brad Jones found himself thrust into the spotlight, while Andy Carroll ensured that he's worth 35 million pound after snatching a stoppage-time winner in a 3-2 epic at Blackburn.
The highlight of the match probably was Alexander Doni, deputising for the suspended Reina, being sent off midway through the first half, meaning Brad Jones had to make his EPL debut. The Australian who had just make two appearances since summer of 2010, is now the only senior goalkeeper available for Wembley - the club's top priority at the moment.
Last night he had up and down, saving the penalty that his predecessor but making a mess of a backpass and fouling Yakubu which lead to the equalizer. He might have been affected by a weird week after Maxi Rodriguez's two goals put Liverpool in the lead after just 16 minutes. However, after saving the penalty, he was beaten twice by Yakubu before Carroll came to rescue him and Liverpool, to grab the first win after 5 league games.
Liverpool was lucky that the Referee Anthony Taylor was lenient to show only a yellow booking, otherwise the club found themselves in a very tough position. Though epic as it was, the game brought what Liverpool needed.
